A powerful scene from Goblin’s 16th episode:

Grim Reaper was talking to two deceased men, one a powerful person and the other man, his driver.

Grim Reaper: Drink it. (Offering two cup of tea) It’ll remove all your memories from your life.

Driver: Thank you!

Powerful Man: What kind of nonsense is this? I won’t share a table with my driver. Or drink the same tea.

Grim Reaper: Here, everyone gets the same cup of tea.

Powerful Man: What logic is that? I’m upset as it is to be dead. Why should I be treated the same as the likes of a man whose whole life isn’t worth as the watch on my wrist?

Grim Reaper: I will tell you again. Here, everyone gets the same cup of tea. Your watch has already stopped ticking. Nothing you have with you can pass that threshold. Were you a powerful man in this life? As soon as go through that door, you’ll realize that the crimes you committed with your eyes, your mouth, your hands and feet, and heart are much more powerful than anything you knew. See how deep in Hades they drag you down.

I am glad that Goblin’s popularity is more than it’s powerful cast, great OST, astounding cinematography, world-class locations and beautiful love story, it has depth and substance which is artistically incorporated into every scene of the drama, acted brilliantly by the cast. The scene took less than a minute, but the impact can last for a long time. If you have watched carefully and has taken every part by heart, it can actually move and change you. The grim reaper’s statement echoed loudly at the back of your mind and you begin to ask questions. Simple inquiries in life with difficult answers.

Let’s analyze Grimy’s statement by heart:

Here, everyone gets the same cup of tea. You can be president of the world, you can be Bill Gates or you can be Miss Universe and he can be the beggar, the murderer, the adulterer but when your life comes to an end, you leave everything behind you. The moment your soul left your earthly body, you become equals in the eyes of God. Naked, you will be weighed by how worthwhile you have lived. Were you clean enough to make the entrance to the gates of heaven or filthy enough to pass through the dungeons in hell?

Your watched has stopped ticking. You can wear the best watch in the world – Philippe Patek, Rolex, or  Tissot, but at the end of your tenure on earth, that expensive minute hand will stop ticking. And no diamonds or guarantee period can bring you back to life. You will decompose and you will become the dust of the earth. Will you wander forever with the wind? Floating and restless without peace from within?

Nothing you have with you can pass that threshold.

Many of us seem to spend an incredible amount of time and energy chasing the dream job. After all, a bigger paycheck often translates into a better car, a bigger house, and a higher worldly social status.

Grand estates, fancy cars, expensive clothes, and shoes are temporary worldly fixes whereas dedicating time and effort into something that lasts an eternity make more sense, doesn’t it? Multiple bank accounts and solid investments are ad interim until the true treasure comes to take effect both in heaven and hell. Realization dawns on you and you start to ask what matters most in life? What treasures are worth keeping. That big home that you’ve worked all your life will be left to someone else when you die. That sleek Audi will go to a garage and become a waste of rust after a few decades.  That branded clothes will have holes after every wash and that shoe will soon lose its strap. Nothing in this world lasts.

When we die, we live everything behind.

Were you a powerful man in this life? As soon as go through that door, you’ll realize that the crimes you committed with your eyes, your mouth, your hands and feet, and heart are much more powerful than anything you knew. See how deep in Hades they drag you down.

It’s not WHO YOU ARE but WHAT YOU  ARE AND HOW YOU ARE when our life comes to an end. We will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ and give an account for our lives here on the earth. What are we made of? What foundations have we laid upon? Is it lasting or temporary? What good have you done? Why did you do it? Do you live to please or because you live with sincerity?

Unfortunately, our inherent goodness and innocence are overwhelmed by the tepytation of the modern world. In fact, I am one of them. Power, wealth, and influence have been marked in this inhumane time. Where is kindness without malice? Where is forgiveness without indebtment? Where is love without lust? A few good examples are the exception but most of the millennials imprecated their neighbors when their heart froze in jealousy and contempt.

You are measured by how morally good you live. Clean your act. As soon as go through that door, you’ll realize that the crimes you committed with your eyes, your mouth, your hands and feet, and heart are much more powerful than anything you knew.
